Weekend Respite

ANIBIC's Weekend Respite program is a community-based program providing engaging recreational opportunities bi-monthly for 12 to 16 week sessions on alternating Saturdays or Sundays. Individuals are encouraged to explore their community, develop friendships, and expand their independence in small groups as they attend cultural events within the community, while family members enjoy a day to pursue their own interests. Activities may include: Amusement Parks, bowling, theater, sporting events, picnics and live entertainment

Individuals with a documented diagnosis of a learning disability, mild mental retardation and/or developmental disability who reside with a family member in Queens are eligible to apply for this program.

Family Support Counseling

ANIBIC's Family Support Counseling program offers individual and group counseling to persons, age 5 through adult, who are diagnosed with a developmental disability and reside with their families in Queens. This is a free service and it is available to family members of disabled individuals as well.

The counseling program offers developmentally disabled children and adults the opportunity to discuss concerns and develop coping strategies. This program provides a supportive environment within which participants are encouraged to discuss and develop personal and/or family-oriented goals.

Session topics covered include, but are not limited to, support, education, vocational counseling, individual and group discussion, and task-oriented counseling/training.

Family Education

ANIBIC takes great pride in working closely with family members and guardians of our consumers. We offer seminars on various topics of interest, including: guardianship, entitlements, and handling transitions.
